Night Boat to Tangier by Kevin Barry

Silhouettes of two men against light background with book title

Hajar and Curtis were surprised that Night Boat to Tangier didn’t quite do it for them.

The Booker longlisted story of Irish gangsters in search of a lost daughter is full of mind-blowingly beautiful passages, but the Dabblers just couldn’t quite connect with the characters.

Maybe it’s because Hajar’s got another wisdom tooth coming through or because they just didn’t spend the time on the book that it deserved, but either way, we’d love to know what you think!

Read Kevin Barry’s third novel, listen to the podcast and do tell us what we’re missing.

As usual, the latest episode of DBC is full of swearing and nonsense.

Publisher’s Blurb

It’s late one night at the Spanish port of Algeciras and two fading Irish gangsters are waiting on the boat from Tangier. A lover has been lost, a daughter has gone missing, their world has come asunder – can it be put together again?

“A blackly comic journey into the abyss … Beautifully written … Barry is a clarvoyant narrator of the male psyche and a consistent lyrical visionary … What distinguishes this book beyond its humour, terror and beauty of description is its moral perception … It is a plunging spiritual immersion into the parlous souls of wrongful men” ALAN WARNER Guardian

“I devoured Night Boat to Tangier. I loved the potent truth of it all, drenched in damage and romance. The Barry turn of phrase is a true wonder of this world” MAX PORTER
